Columbus Bar Names Jill Snitcher McQuain New Executive Director
The Honorable Stephen L. McIntosh, President of the Columbus Bar Association, has announced the selection of Jill Snitcher McQuain as the new Executive Director of the Association. Ms. Snitcher McQuain will succeed Alex Lagusch, who is retiring after 33 years.

Maureen O’Connor to Become the First Female Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court
On November 2, voters selected Justice Maureen O’Connor to become the first woman Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court in the 207-year history of the state.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New Courthouse Planned
The Franklin County Board of Commissioners, in partnership with the Court of Common Pleas, will hold a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new Common Pleas Courthouse on Thursday, December 16 at 10:00am.

'525,' Franklin County's New Number
Beginning December 13, 2010, all Franklin County Government telephone numbers that currently begin with '462' or '719' will switch to begin with '525'.
Congratulations, New Ohio Attorneys!
Of the 1,192 applicants who sat for the July 2010 Ohio bar exam, 987 (82.8 percent) passed. The new attorneys were sworn in at the Ohio Theater on November 8.

Healthcare Reform: OTC Medications
Starting January 1, 2011, health flexible spending accounts (FSAs) and health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs) can no longer reimburse participants for non-prescribed over-the-counter drugs/medicines (OTC items) other than insulin. If the OTC item has been prescribed by an appropriately licensed healthcare provider, health FSAs and HRAs may still provide for reimbursement of such items.
In addition, non-prescribed OTC items (other than insulin) will no longer be a qualifying medical expenses that can be reimbursed on a tax-free basis through a health savings account (HSA) or Archer MSA.

November 20 is Last Day for Holiday Book Drive Supporting Fran Jacobs Media Center
Youth at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Facility were selected by Barnes & Noble (Tremont Road) for its 2010 Holiday Book Drive that ends on November 20. Between now and Saturday, you can purchase a preselected book or choose your own for The Fran Jacobs Media Center. You sign a gift card and Barnes & Noble gift wraps and delivers the books to the youth at the Detention Facility on Christmas Day. Can't get to the Tremont store? Email Scams Targeting Attorneys
Recently, a local law firm was an attempted target of an email scam similar to this one. Fortunately, the firm was suspicious and did not fall prey to the scam, but we wanted to pass along some information about known scams that target attorneys and law firms.
