Minority Clerkship Program
Since 1987, minority law students and employers in Central Ohio have benefited from the existence of the Columbus Bar Minority Clerkship Program. Employers have generously contributed more than $4.8 million in salaries to students in the program, employing more than 600 summer clerks. The MCP experience continues to serve as an important tool in the growth of 1st and 2nd year minority law students and has helped to nearly double the number the of minority attorneys in Central Ohio firms that are part of the Columbus Bar's Managing Partners Diversity Initiative. Averages of 25 - 30 students are placed with 20 - 22 employers each year.

Summer Associates Cultural Competence Training
Summer associates throughout the city are trained in cultural competence as a part of the Summer Associates Training Seminar conducted each year by the Columbus Bar. An average of 100+ associates has participated annually since 2008 and the presentation by a local diversity consulting firm is consistently one of the highest rated agenda topics.
Law & Leadership Institute Internships
For the seventh year signatory firms will host rising tenth grade high school students for the highlight of their summer – a four day internship at a law firm. The Law and Leadership Institute, LLC, (“LLI”) is a pipeline program for high school students designed to enrich their educational experiences and prepare them for college and, hopefully, for law school. 100% of the LLI students in the Columbus Class of 2012 had college acceptances. An average of 22 students from Columbus participates during the state-wide internship provided by 11 firms in July, with each host providing the student’s $250 stipend. This program reinforces the MPDI recruitment goal in the 2011-2016 Action Plan.

MPDI Annual Diversity Survey
Each year since 2002 the firms and law schools of the MPDI participate in an annual survey to measure the progress towards goals identified in the Action Plan. Results are submitted individually and the report aggregates the results for the entire group with references to size of firm. This survey is unique in that very few local or state bars generate this kind of information. Local results are benchmarked to national data to gauge progress compared to others outside Columbus and the annual report is shared at the MPDI Annual Diversity Meeting.
