Franklin County Probate Judge Robert G. Montgomery Receives National Award

Probate Judge Robert G. Montgomery was the sole judge in the United States selected the receive the “Isabella Award,” this year from the National College of Probate Judges. This award is named for Judge Isabella Horton Grant, a pioneering family court judge and it will be presented to Judge Montgomery at the 2021 Spring Mid-Year Conference in Tucson, Arizona.

Judge Montgomery is the only judge in the State of Ohio to ever be recognized nationally with this award. He was nominated by a bi-partisan group of six Ohio probate judges from large and small counties who had all served as president of the Ohio Association of Probate Judges, based on Judge Montgomery’s innovative work to develop legislation creating Guardianship Service Boards in the State of Ohio.

Judge Montgomery has served as Franklin County Probate Judge since 2011. His last day in office is Monday, February 8, 2021. Previously, he served as Franklin County Recorder from 2000-2010. He is a graduate of McComb High School, Bowling Green State University and holds a law degree from Capital University Law School. As Probate Judge, he served as the Clerk of his own Court, presiding over the largest single-judge court in the State of Ohio, adjudicated disputes related to wills, trusts, adoptions and he served as the superior guardian for over 8,000 citizens. He also appointed the Metroparks Commissioners as the public official in charge of oversight of the Metroparks.
